The Spider and the Serpent
The Spider and the Serpent
The Official Newsletter of Charlotte’s Web
Volume 1, No. 4, Nov/Dec 2003

I would like to thank everyone for all the prayers offered for our
brother Art. On Wednesday, December 3rd, Art left this physical plain and
went to his spiritual place. We will miss him but we also know that he
is ok and no longer suffers in pain.

Art was a beautiful soul and was loved by many. He was very special to
me and I am thankful that our paths crossed, and we that had the
opportunity to learn, grow, and share together in this lifetime.

“A life well-lived doesn’t end, any more than music ends…
It echoes through time with whispers of beauty and grace…
If we listen, we can hear the encore with our hearts,
For the song plays on, just as love lives on.”

Divine blessings to all.
Namaste, Charlotte

Nature’s Rhythm: Projection

As we pass through this holiday season and the conclusion of yet
another julian calendar year, this is also a time of reflection and
projection. We look for the new year to be full of new growth and experiences
with all the aspects of high quality living. Depending on our
individual circumstances focus turns to enrich particular areas of life; such as
love, happiness, opportunity, success, security, balance, stability,
and the list goes on. That’s why we make resolutions in hopes that we
can make these things happen – and YOU CAN!

Here are a few suggestions that you might consider as valuable methods
to get focused and ensure your success in achieving all that you have
asked for. Remember, your success is measured by what you see in your
heart and in your minds eye.

Be a magnet for what you want the most. You can
become a magnet for what you most fear and wish to avoid, or you can become
a magnet for what you truly wish in your deepest heart. Remember, our
hearts are the emotional centers of our bodies, and they put out
frequencies that are 10 times the power of the frequencies of our brain. So
take a few minutes and write down at least 7 keywords or phrases that
best describe your desires. Be sure to write them in positive form,
affirmative wording. Leave out words such as quit, stop, repel, don’t,
not, etc.

Examples:

If you want to stop smoking, then one of your keywords might be
“non-smoker”.

If you want a better job or a job at all, one of your key phrases might
be “gainfully employed”.

Get to know yourself. Control your mind and your thinking.
Meditation is one way to quiet your mind and to gain some mastery over it. It
does not matter if you feel that your mind is too busy. Spend the time
to relax in your own quiet space and let the thoughts drift. Try to
visualize that which you want in your life. Focus on the keywords on
your list. Maintain a visualization in your heart of what each of those
words mean to you. It will act as a magnet to attract those
opportunities and people to help accomplish the goal. As you grow in this area,
you may find that your New Year resolutions change. And that’s ok. The
resolutions are simply an outward expression of what you know about
yourself at that moment.

Here is a sample of a very powerful RoHun affirmation that you can use
daily. You may want to put the affirmation into your own words. What's
important is to always ask for the love, harmony and wisdom we so
rightly deserve. But use this affirmation to release your will to the
universe.

"For my highest good, I ask that my soft, warm, feminine energy and my
strong, directive male energy flow out into the Universe and attract
all those people and all those opportunities that can best allow me to
express my love and wisdom."

When we forget to ask for our highest good, we sometimes allow negative
thoughts to seep into our energy and stop or hinder our progress.

Live in the now. The path to everything is
through the now, through this moment. If reliving the past or speculating
about the future, the present moment will be gone, and you missed it.
And you can’t get it back. So, when you find yourself thinking of the
future or the past, bring your awareness into the present moment. Really
experience how you feel and what’s happening around you. By living in
the now you’ll be free to accept the gift of the universe and to
realize all the opportunities provided to achieve your entire 2004 wish list.

Forgiveness. Permit yourself to forgive others and
to forgive yourself. Always recognize what is happening and release
from your energy whatever faulty thoughts are encountered.

I will leave you with these words:

" We get everything that we ask for.”

Look at your experiences openly. If it’s not what you want, then get
to the root of the cause as soon as possible. But in all cases, give
thanks. The lessons put before us are the stepping stones needed to
achieve all those things we desire.

Take the time daily in the year 2004 to write down at least 5 things
you have to be thankful for. I’m sure your ‘thank’ list will grow over
time.

Namaste,
Bright blessings for the new year!

Life’s Simple Gifts: A Mere Matter of Thought
- by Coral
Dedicated to Arthur J Gregson

Letting Go

So many things come and go in our lives. Acquaintances, associates,
material possessions, pets, homes, even friends and family move away or
pass on. How do we let go of the pain or sadness associated with these
changes and still hold on to a peaceful heart and mind?

Recently, I have had to ask myself this question when the passing of a
dear friend took me somewhat by surprise. How do you reconcile what
you are feeling with what you think you know about the 'after-life'? How
do you say "Goodbye" and mean it?

I think the answer may lie in remembering what your relationship was
with that individual, and meeting those memories with a sense of
gratitude for being given the opportunity to really know someone on a soul
level. It is only the 'human' piece of us that feels the sadness; the
Divine piece of us knows that the individual is on to better things.
Still, it is challenging for us to let go. Especially when we feel some
sort of selfish sense of incompleteness.

We are learning that 'death' is but a transition to another part of
Life. That Life is an unfolding, evolving process wherein we must learn
to effectively deal with emotion, to understand it and make every
attempt to control it in a more productive way. Not that emotion is a bad
thing. It isn't. But, it can get us into trouble if we allow IT to
control US, instead of the other way around.

Is there an appropriate or accurate way to mourn the passing of a loved
one? I imagine that what is appropriate for one may not be appropriate
for another. There does need to be a period where you allow yourself
to mourn, but when all you can feel is sadness, it's time to let go.
No, it isn't easy, but it IS possible. Here are a few suggestions that
may help:

- See them in the Light, with a smile on their face and laughter in
their
heart.

- Remember all of the fun times; the lighthearted times when you knew
you had a good friend.

- Realize that Life on this plane of existence is short; but Life is
Life and can NOT die.

- Count all the blessings that you DO have. There are still many
important people in your Life, let them know that they matter to you.

- Let GO of the 'pain' you feel for their passing. That is YOUR pain,
and, you control it.

What follows is a poem a friend of mine gave me years ago, and it helps
me during a time of loss. I hope it will be a Blessing to you as well.

Do not stand by my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am a diamond glint of snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starshine at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry,
I am not there...I DID NOT DIE!

Perspectives: THE NEW YEAR AND ITS RITUALS
– by Elizabeth

How do you celebrate the New Year? The ways in which we celebrate New
Years are varied but carry similar ideas. The main idea is to say
goodbye to the tired Old Year (often depicted as Father Time) and to greet
the New Year shown as a baby wearing a banner, a top hat and optional
diaper. Many people have a party with friends culminating in gathering
around the TV(or braving the crowds) watching the Ball drop counting off
the seconds till the New Year and singing AULD LANG ZINE (does any one
know what that term means?

The month January begins the new year. A clue as to what the
celebration of the New Year is about is contained in the name January. The month
of January is named for the Roman god Janus. Janus had two faces, one
faces backward to the past. The other faces forward to the future. Janus
guarded the gate to paradise and was the gatekeeper determining who
could come in and who should go out. Janus was selected as the name of the
first month in the Julian calendar to suggest to us that a successful
year depends upon our looking back and evaluating our past while looking
forward to plan our future.

To look back and effectively evaluate our past depends upon our ability
to be truthful to ourselves. This ability calls for lots of skill in
objectivity in dealing with our own perceptions. I like to pull out my
Llewyllen’s astrological calendar and review my notes. I review the
number of times I felt compelled to write a letter from Hell, designed to
make someone who I thought had wronged me bleed (usually addressed to
some agent of bureaucracy.) There the good times I like to remember and
the times I had to go to doctors, dentists and the taxman. When I look
back I see my errors and realize that the year doesn’t turn out like I
planned.

There are lots of reasons the year did not turn out the way I planned.
The answers lie in resolutions and other faulty plans. Did I say how I
expected to keep the resolution? They forgot to tell me I had to do
that!

Janus looks forward with great vision and understands cause and effect.
What we need to do is to set goals and plan to implement them. That is
too analytic for my bohemian Aquarian brain so I prefer to do as they
say in Cajun country Le bon temps rouleau--LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL! You
can’t go wrong with that.

This brings me to my annual ritual of burning my old resolutions in the
burning bowl along with a little sage for wisdom and writing my new
wants and gotta haves on the next year’s list. The usual annual ritual
includes a group of my friends and I participating in a midnight bowl
burning. We make out our list for the next year, place them in a self
addressed, stamped envelope and the host for the next year gathering mails
our list to us before Christmas. We open them at the party and read the
items. One year a friend of mine dropped his list. I picked the list up
and unwittingly read it trying to find out who the owner was. My friend
asked for a relationship with a woman who would last. I still wonder
what he meant by that. Some I wrote over the years probably were as
confusing. In truth they were confusing because I had not thought out what
I wanted hence I did not accomplish my resolutions.

Other rituals of days in the Delta include eating black eyed peas and
hog jowls or a Hopping John. The black eyed peas symbolizes abundance
and the hog jowls represent prosperity or a Fat harvest. Hopping John
consists of peas, rice and hot peppers. As it is named Hopping John means
to keep you moving to get the abundance symbolized by the rice and
peas. Once a friend of mine from the North told me the ritual dish is
sardines and crackers. Don’t believe I like that idea, but if that’s what
does it for you, keep it up.

My favorite New Year celebration? I have had so many good ones. My all
time favorite took place in 1963 the year I graduated from a small
Junior college in the Mississippi Delta. There aren’t many good places to
go in the area. I was dating a guy who was with the Forestry Department.
My mom did the unthinkable and allowed me to go with Jobe and our group
of friends over night. We drove to Memphis to go to the New Years
celebration on the roof of the Peabody Hotel. If you are female and get
taken to the Peabody especially for New Years, you know you are special.
After ringing in the New Year, the group drove back to the Delta and
went to several homes for a progressive dinner/breakfast. The last place
we went we would stay till dawn. Most tried to stay awake. I didn’t. I
found a big red leather armchair by the fireplace and went to
sleep…..alone! About seven in the morning the rest found me. Evidently I wasn’t
missed until then. We cleaned up and put on riding gear. We went
riding and crossbow hunting for deer. In the late afternoon, Jobe and I rode
out to a field in his Jeep. There are huge herds of deer in the Delta.
Jobe parked the Jeep and tooted the horn. Deer came running from
everywhere. Deer jumped over the top of the Jeep and over the hood. It was an
awesome sight! Mom’s faith in Jobe turned out to be valid. After the
deer escapade, Jobe took me home. Those were more innocent times. Still,
that particular New Years will always be my favorite. There were no
resolutions that year or the year before. I wonder if that had anything
to do with it being one of the best?

Space to Explore

We all need space -- free from demands, deadlines, expectations and
judgments -- to explore who we are and what life is all about. Free time,
with absolutely no agenda, is rich with potential. How can we grow if
we have no space and freedom to dream?
"Deny children -- or anyone else -- the chance to do ‘nothing,’ and we
may be denying them the chance to do ‘something’ -- to find and do any
work that is truly important to themselves or to someone else."
