The Spider and the Serpent

I thought you might be interested in the reason we called this newsletter The Spider and the Serpent.  Well, there is one obvious reason for the Spider.  It is the totem for Charlotte’s Web.  The spider teaches us creativity and balance.  Balance between the physical and the spiritual, the past and the now, male and female, etc.  And that we should always be aware of our experience, and to be aware with understanding.  The more knowledge (understanding) that is acquired the better one serves their own destiny as well as others.  For it is this knowledge that will weave our world for the future.

The Serpent symbolizes many different aspects. It is the symbol of the Mother Goddess, Mother Nature, death and rebirth, unified consciousness, life, and wisdom.  Ultimately, it is the guide to higher consciousness and the creative life force within humans.  When the Kundalini (serpent fire) that lies at the base of the spine is awakened and released, the spiritual  energy centers in the mind and body are activated, opening new dimensions and levels of awareness -- enlightenment.

With the spiritual knowledge and awareness (enlightenment) provided by the Serpent (spirit), the Spider (physical) creates a web that is the physical representation of the life force within.

We hope this newsletter will be beneficial to the readers and help to answer questions or create questions.

Living is a journey not a destination.  Knowledge is power. The power to create your own life.

 

 

Life’s Simple Gifts:

A Mere Matter of Thought

 

How many of you have ever asked or BEEN asked a question and the reply was, "hmmm, I've never thought about that”.  Often that response becomes a  "habit" and a consequential effect is that the individual excuses himself from thinking of the more involved or sensitive issues of Life. Instead, we sometimes choose to just accept what comes our way, without attempting to figure out the why of it all. We attribute our less than desirable circumstances to “bad luck” or karma, not realizing that the very acceptance of the idea of “bad luck” attracts that erroneous type of energy.

 

When we REALLY open our minds to the obvious evidence of the power of Thought, it's possible to become awestruck or fearful of this implication, as it lays total responsibility of our circumstances at OUR feet.  Not some outside source, but US.  That is somewhat challenging for many of us to take.

 

Yet, there are countless writings on the matter; proof in the experiences of numerous individuals; EVIDENCE in ALL of your own lives that our thoughts DO effect our circumstances. To take this a step further, could it be possible that our thoughts actually CAUSE our circumstances?

 

It is my hope with this section of The Spider and The Serpent to explore with you the nature, power, and appropriate USE of Thought.  I encourage your participation and welcome your questions or topic suggestions. If you are so inclined, I invite you to share moments, or periods of time where you KNOW that what brought you through a challenging time was your own accurate thinking.  I feel that most of us who travel a spiritual path believe that everything happens for a reason.  But sometimes, things happen ONLY because we thought they would.

 

As a practicing student of Astrology, next month I would like to suggest ways to combine the thought process with the influences we are under from the heavens in order to receive the maximum positive effect.  We certainly do FEEL the energies coming from the planets, but the way we handle those energies is the important thing.

Information Civilization

 

I’ve heard people comment from to time that the sheer volume of new data relating to their work is so overwhelming that there is “absolutely no way” that they can keep up with it all.  These are people in professions such as electronics, health care, physics, astronomy, biology, geology, high-tech computer industry, and so on. One example, NASA has amassed such an enormous amount of new information to date that it will take even their computers years to analyze it all.

 

This made me stop to think about a few things: Where did all this begin? Has there been a pattern to this information acceleration? Is there an end, or final destination of this ‘information super-highway’ or will we eventually just spin out of control and crash and burn?

 

So, I checked it out! And while checking, I was fortunate enough to come upon some works of Robert Anton Wilson. Most of what I sought I found in volume ll of Wilson’s ‘Cosmic Trigger’ trilogy. Mr. Wilson’s intellect is incredible; his insights sharp and focused, his wit and humor make for fascinating, and quite worthwhile reading. *

 

The earliest known artifact crafted by intelligent life on our planet is a stone axe found in Africa. It dates back over 4,000,000 years.

 

If you use a computer and know the correct algorithms, you can convert anything into binary notation. You can then estimate the information in a mathematical theorem, a painting, a book, or any human product. In this way, in 1974, statistician George Anderla estimated how much information humanity had accumulated between that African stone axe of 4,000,000 BC and the beginning of the Christian calendar in 1 AD.

 

Naturally, 4,000,000 years of information gives you a rather large number. Anderla, however, took that as his basic unit, and then calculated how long it took to ‘double’ that amount of binary units of information.  It took only 1500 years. In other words, in 1500 AD, the human race had ‘twice’ the amount of  information as was available to the Romans in 1 AD.

 

 

By 1750 information had doubled again. Almost 4,000,000 years after the first tool to arrive at the information density of Rome 1AD, but then only 1500 years to double that. The second doubling had taken only 250 years! And only 150 years for information to double again by1900.

 

By 1950 information had doubled again. The acceleration factor was becoming more and more obvious to more and more observers. This doubling had taken only 50 years! The fully educated person of 1950 could, at least in potential, learn two facts for every one fact known to his parents in 1950, four for every one known in 1750, eight for every fact known in 1500, 16 for every fact known at the time of Christ.

 

The next doubling of information took only 10 years and by 1960 “we”  collectively  knew twice as much about the Universe as we had known in 1950.

 

By 1967, information had doubled again, and humanity knew or could access twice as much knowledge about the Universe as we knew only 7 years earlier.

 

By 1973, information again had doubled. Nobody could keep track of it. But if you knew where to look you could find, somewhere in the Big computers, 128 times as much data as Jesus ever saw, 64 times as much as Leonardo had at his disposal twice as much as we had in our inventory only 6 years earlier in 1967.

 

According to computer scientist Dr.Jacqes Vallee, information is now doubling every 18 months!

 

We are in what Toffler calls the Third Wave “Information Civilization”.   If Vallee is right about information doubling every 18 months, and Gordon is right about fractals increasing where information flow increases, then everything MUST become steadily more unpredictable from here on, more ‘chaotic’ in the mathematical sense.

 

If this “information acceleration” is a Mandelbrot fractal, as Terrance McKenna claims, will we reach a point in 2012 where INFORMATION DOUBLES A MILLION TIMES A SECOND?

How do we identify our own unconscious programs if we are unconscious of them?

PAY ATTENTION TO EVERYTHING THAT UPSETS US.

Life helps us out. Unconsciously, each of us projects our unconscious attributes, fears and wounding onto other people and things. This lets us see our own invisible, repressed programs so we can take ownership of them. For example, if we get upset because someone has deceived us, we can ask how we are deceiving ourselves.

What typically upsets you? Ask yourself how what is happening externally mirrors what is going on within you. Resolve your inner situation and the outer manifestations will no longer bother you.
